So. The cats were out of food. I decide to run over to Kroger and grab a bag. I don't plan on a big trip since I'm tired and just taking my backpack.
Kroger is having a promo where you save $5 off when you buy 10 participating items. Okay, so I take a minute before running out the door to grab a few coupons handy. I get 2 boxes Betty Crocker fruit shapes - 1.49 after the discount 4 bags of Chex 1.40 after the discount 1 bag Purina cat chow - 4.49 after the discount 2 Bumble Bee tuna in pouch - .49 after coupon 1 Uncle Beans ready rice - 99 cents after discount. Bic Soleil razors were on sale and I had 5 coupons so I got 5 of them. Also picked up a bottle of powerade. I decided in my epic brilliance to go to the u-scan so I don't hold up the people behind me. Given my previous problems there I don't know what I was thinking. Every thing rings up correctly but I have to go give my coupons to the cashier for her to scan in at her station. She looks at them and walks back over to me. This is never a good sign. Lets see, I couldn't use my tuna coupons because the tuna was 49 cents after the buy 10 save $5 promo and the coupons were for $1 off. Okay, fair enough. Just manually take off 49 cents for each one. No, they can't do that. The coupons didn't scan. Which was odd since she hadn't scanned a single one at that point. Fine. I can eat 49 cents for two packages. She seems to try and tell me I can't use any coupons and asks me how many packages of the tuna I got. I explain I got 2. She looks at my other coupons and starts sorting through the bags Finally she goes back to her station with the coupons. Uh oh, she's coming back over to me. Then she gets to the razors. The coupons say "one coupon per purchase." I explained that just means you can only use one coupon per item. No, she insists and her manager agrees. I don't mention this is the standard disclaimer in case she decides I can't use my other coupons. So I will just get one pack of razors and use one coupon. Nope! See the coupon is for $3 off and the razors are $2.69 and the world will spin off its axis if she manually takes off the item price. So I ask her to void all 5. The coupons expire TODAY so I am out of luck She brings me back my coupons and also randomly hands me one of my fruit snacks coupons because I couldn't use it because it said I "used too many coupons". By this point I just want to GO. If I hadn't needed the cat food I would have just walked out My final receipt was Total savings $18.84 paid 9.55 If she had let me use those coupons it would have been 6.75 or lower if I had been able to get the razors and use those coupons. I'm actually going to write a complaint letter over this. I am sick of cashiers telling me I can only use one coupon. The kicker here was the manager AGREED with her. Back during the Amp energy drink Kroger GC promo I ran into the same issue with "one coupon per purchase". Does anyone else have more trouble with uscan cashiers than going through the regular lines?

I have less problems with using the self check-out than the regular aisles.
I had a bunch of coupons one day and the self check-out cashier told me NOT to enter my Ralphs (part of Kroger) club card until she scanned all of my coupons since she didn't want to override them or have any hassles. This worked out to my advantage since I had some free coupons and she took the whole amount off and then the Ralphs club card took off more when I scanned it at the end making many of them money makers. The Ralphs cashiers never check the bags since they are also working the customer service desk when needed and just don't want lines or hassles. |

Sorry you had so much trouble. Kroger in my area is the most coupon friendly store around. Maybe because Kroger Corporate Office is located in Columbus, OH? Call corporate. A friend of mine that works for Kroger said Kroger tells them not to argue about coupons, the customer always wins in the end anyway. Hope this works the same way for you in GA.

I'm in Ohio also Bear. I've never had so much trouble in ANY store as you had in one trip to Kroger! Maybe it's because if there are problems the corporate people can just drive on down and check it out. I used my bumblebee coupons at Kroger last week and the B1G1 ricolas (BTW they gave me 1.99 for the free one? I don't know I just roll with it!) and the carnation milk coupons not ONE single problem. They should know you don't get a discount on each item, they are giving you $5 off your shopping trip when you buy 10 of them. I'd defnitely call someone b/c if I had that experience I'd be hard pressed to want to shop there again! That makes me want to give a shout out to any clerks at my local stores for being so cool and always trying to please their customers. Makes you really appreciate the good customer service!

Really, really, really dislike Kroger! I went today for the first time in about a month to load up on the evaporated milk, choc. chips and ICBINB sticks...all for holiday baking. They made me break it down into 10 of the sale items per transactions. I had to do 4 transactions!!! The mgr. said it was one per transaction so I'd have to get rung up 4 times with 40 of the sale items. I was glad to do it because I wanted to make sure it rang up correctly (which it did not a month or so ago on the same sale). Buuuut, I felt terrible for the people behind me in line. I honestly wanted to stand up on the counter and holler, "They're making me do it this way!!!!!!!!!!!!"
How ridiculous is this rule??? I know some of you are lucky enough to get to do as many specials as you like..appreciate your good fortune! |

Too bad Mamacita. I did 3 on Saturday all at the same time with no problem. I agree with another post...Kroger is THE most friendly coupon store around here...except a friend did tell me this morning about her husband having problems at the one on Eldridge last night. I didn't want to hear that...better not be a sign of things to come. I always stay OUT of the u-scan. Yuk!

Well good grief! I had bought a bunch of those razors doing the bogo, and they were MM's. No issues.
This week when I did my multiple transactions for the mega deals I had a young cashier and she was helping me keep track every time I got up to the 10 items. Then she proceeded to scan every Q I gave her, not a single problem! I was at the K on 92 in Woodstock/Acworth area. Sorry you had such a hard time. ![]() And I thought WGS was our nghtmare. ![]() Follow thru and write that letter! |
