Default return to school

When is it time to start buying school supplies? I have 3 kids and we live in an area that has schools that are low income. Last year my youngest had 6 boxes of crayons on her list. I don't mind helping out other students, but give me a break. With 3 kids that adds up. I do have some left over stuff from last year and so far have seen occas. clearance. Lunch boxes are still $15. Last years bill for school supplies alone was $300.00.

6 boxes of crayons!!! that's ridiculous! there's no way i'd buy all that. like you said, that would sure add up fast!

that being said, they are already selling school supplies around here, but that may or may not be because some of the schools are on a year-round schedule.

Depending on how young the kids are, they might go through several sets of crayons throughout the year!

Check your local Wags and CVS. My Wags has have school supplies on clearance lately preparing for the back to school stuff. CVS has had a few notebooks for about $1.

Also, CVS has a great back to school sale coming up sometime, I think I saw this on the hearts....

Here in Indiana kids start school around August 13, so school supplies go really cheap at Walmart especially around the 3rd week in July. Last year 24 packs of Crayola crayons were $0.20 a pack, looseleaf notebooks were $0.05 each. I bought 40 boxes of crayons ($8 total), and 40 notebooks ($2 total), and donated half of them to a local special services school my daughter attends. At those prices we can afford to get enough ahead for the entire year!

We just got out of school (June 12). Can't believe we need to start thinking about back to school. Check the ads in Sundays papers; drug stores and office supply stores always have sales for back to school -- late July-ish.

There are some sales coming up at CVS and WAGS within the next few weeks! Last year they both had pretty good sales too!

Default School supply sales

Start watching the ads for school supply sales in July.....besides Walmart, Target, and Walgreens look at the ads for the office supply stores. Last year I stocked up on folders at Office Depot when they had them onsale for a penny each! Also when you go to Walgreens or such for certain school supplies and they are out don't forget to ask for a raincheck...even if the deal is with a Walgreens in-ad coupon. If you can wait, I got my kids there lunch boxes in September when they were on clearance for 75% at Target! Also got one of my boys a new backpack for 75% off at that time too.

Completely agree with you on this!! I have 3 kids as well all in catholic school. My school does the stationary start kit, but I opted out this year ($142 for 3 kids). Ive decided to recycle some of the stuff they used (if it was usable). Have numerous pencils cases, glue (3/4 or 1/2 full), and same for glue sticks, scissors, etc.

Not sure if you have Staples or Office Max in your area, but they have some really good deals as the start of school gets closer. I visited Staples last week for their dollars deals - box of 24 Crayola crayons for $1 (got 9 boxes for my 3 kids since they seem to disappear, break or need to be restocked).

They also have free-bees -- last year was pencils, folders, pocket pencils sharpners, etc. I stockpiled the pencils and folders -- if there is a limit, I simply go back once a day and get the goodies.

Good luck!
