Default Issue with Bag Boys (or Girls)

Ok I need to vent here...Went to Stop and Shop to use my Double $1 Q's and I checked with Cust Service first to make sure I can do what I wanted to. Transaction went great, cashier was awesome !!! I had an issue with the person bagging my groceries. I ALWAYS use totes, I hate plastic bags, I had handed him my totes before the transaction started but he started bagging with plastic, I was like excuse me I would like to use my totes and avoid the plastic bags, so he started and filled one tote and again back to the plastic, I took the plastic bags dumped my groceries out and re bagged them in my totes he replied you should of told me you didn't want plastic....I was thinking OMG I did tell you (S&S credits 5 cents a bag) The cashier looked at him and said pay attention....lol.....I swear its usually the cashier that issues occur with not the person who bags them

What ever happened to "do you want paper of plastic"? (or none of the above).
Sounds like his mind was somewhere else. Not good customer service.

I understand your frustration...

But being a bagger doing the same thing for 8 hours...I use to zone out big time to.

My issue with the baggers is that they don't know how to bag . I did this job in college so I'm a bit sympathetic, but at the store I worked at they taught you the proper way to sack groceries so that things don't get crushed. I always ask that they bag the cold stuff separate from the other stuff because I put that stuff away first. I will usually separate the cold from the non-cold on the belt as I am unloading. Inevitably they will mix items and I end up re-bagging everything myself . I use the totes too and I hate when they put only a couple of items in a bag. I don't like having to go to the car multiple times to get my groceries so I don't mind the bags being a little heavy.

If it becomes a consistant problem I would let a manager know. The cashiers at my WM almost always complain about my cloth bags. When I let a manager know he said that's crazy since WM sells cloth bags!

Hopefully for you it was just a one time thing and the kid was just zoned out or something.

I felt bad, I know it isn't the easiest job in the world, I too separate everything on the belt better it hardly ever works and of course I usually fill the bags, they are sturdy enough....I'll bag myself (which I tend to do at Walmart because the cashier can't handle them) it will be less frustrating

Maybe the poor bagger was just having a bad day.

I totally understand what you mean. I haven't had any problems with the baggers at my Publix, but Walmart the cashier acts as if you are asking them to cut their arm off.

The last time I took my cloth bags in the cashier would not bag it, I had to do it myself.

Default Baggers? What baggers?

I haven't had a bagger at a grocery store in a long time. Some places in my area will have the cashier bag as they go. But mostly, we are now expected to bag our own groceries.

And, I agree - gotta bag the cold stuff separately!!!
