Default Warning: Eye those Giant receipts!

I've noticed a problem lately in my shopping at Giant Food (at two different ones in my area). Over and over and over again, things are ringing up incorrectly, or I'm not getting credit for coupons, or I'm not getting Catalinas I was supposed to get.

A couple weeks ago, I got home, looked over the receipt, and realized I hadn't gotten credit for 2 $1 coupons I'd given the cashier. I didn't have any proof, so I never went back to try for a refund.

A few days later, I purchased items for the Meal Deal but didn't get that cost taken off the total.

The next week, same thing with the Meal Deal--I got charged for the "free" items.

And the week after that! Three weeks in a row w/ the Meal Deal.

Last week, I bought Procter & Gamble items and was supposed to get a $10 OYNO Q. Didn't print!

Then, last night, more problems. The Pepperidge Farm bread that was supposed to be BOGO? I got charged for both. And the Thomas' English Muffins that were 50% off? (The circular said BOGO, but the store signs said 50% off). Got charged full price.

When I mentioned these issues to a cashier as she was getting my refund last night, she suggested that it must be because I'm buying the wrong items for the Meal Deal. Um, I don't think so. I can read, and I can see the pictures in the circular. And if I were buying the wrong things, they wouldn't have given me the refund three weeks in a row! They DO look at my receipt to make sure all is legit before handing over cash! But another time when I went back for a Meal Deal refund, the cashier told me that sometimes if you use coupons it screws up the discount (coupons are allowed on the Meal Deal; it just messes up the coding somehow).

The amount of stuff I got gypped on was approx $35. I was able to get back all of this except the 2 coupons in the first incident. But it's a lot easier to have it be right the first time! So just a friendly reminder--pay attention at the register! Check your receipts!

    Default You are right!

    Two things:

    1. In the last 5 or 6 months, I've made a point not to leave the store (Giant or other places where I shop) until I've reviewed and am satisfied with the receipt. Giant (and Harris Teeter) have price guarantees. So, if it rings up wrong, then you get that item free. If you have multiples of the same item, they will only give you one free, but then give you the rest at the advertised price. And yes, check the receipt to make sure the cashier scanned all of the coupons and they registered. I stand clear of the registers and of other customers as I'm checking the receipt...usually near the customer service counter, just in case something is wrong. Once I leave, it's a major pain to get it sorted out.

    2. I found out that coupons mess up the Giant meal deal too. A few weeks ago I wanted the one with Perdue frozen chicken. I had a coupon, but I forgot to use it. My mistake. But I thought it was a really good deal, so I went back later and got it with the coupon. On my second trip, all I was getting was the meal deal. The cashier and I both knew that's what I had. It rang up correctly until she scanned the coupon -- suddenly I owed more! She laughed and said that she's never seen a coupon cause the price to go up. She quickly corrected it. No issues. But had I used it on my first shopping trip when I had other items too, I probably wouldn't have realized it was the coupon that caused the problem.

I didn't realize Giant had a policy of giving the item free if they mess up....I wish I'd known! From now on, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the info!

The Perdue one was one of the ones that messed up for me, too. I do love those Meal Deals--especially when I have a coupon for one or two of the items!

Another thing you need to watch on your receipts @ Giant Foods/Martin stores are the fuel points earned...AND also the special deals that give you $ off gas and/or $ off your order wyb X amount of certain products. They are always messing up my receipts at both stores for these things. have gotten in the habit of checking receipts before leaving due to the high % of mistakes on them.

YUP, They have the ole standard policy of:

If rings in at incorrect price...First one is free, any others would be at the correct pricing.
