Ask your landline phone company about a lifeline credit. This will get you anywhere from $6 to 1/2 of local basic discount.

My mom does this and her phone (with only local calling, no extras) is only $15.00 a month. It was over 30.

You can also sign up for a free cell phone with 60-80 minutes a month depending on your location if you are on any of these programs at www.safelinkwireless.com It is a tracphone that adds minutes to your phone every month and is good for 1 year at a time. You do have to reapply every year, but a good way to get a phone if you don't have the means to otherwise.

I didn't know about that one. It isn't available in my state yet.

my 20 yr old is special needs. they cut mine back to 4.00. It was,nt difficult either. only had to fax them her medicaid card and only took a week.
