    Default Dollar General policies

Okay, so I went to Dollar General in my neighborhood Friday night on my way home (big mistake #1) and ended up very unhappy. The cashier rung up all my items and then looked at my q's and right off the bat said, "We don't accept BOGOs." Half my cart was BOGO items, that's why I went in there! Plus I had four $3/2 Pantene coupons. I bought 8 bottles and he scanned one and said, "these others won't scan." By this time I had four angry people in line behind me and they were complaining that he was the only cashier. I wanted to say, "Look, there was no one in line when I came up here, so just wait your *#&% turn!" So I just paid for everything and left. I went home and looked up their coupon policies and guess what! They DO accept BOGOS, they do accept multiple coupons as long as all the items are correct, etc. etc. So I recalculated and they owe me $24.85. So now I need to go back and talk to the manager. If he/she says their store doesn't accept those q's, I'm contacting corporate. Has this happened to anyone else?
(P.S. Lesson learned-- know the coupon policies before going to a new place!! )

If you do a search, I think you will find many posts about them and issues that other people have had with them. That's not a store I use and based on the comments here, I don't think I'll start any time soon.

I guess I'm lucky there. My problems have all been at Family Dollar!

    Carol,
Since that is quite a bit of money, I would bring my receipt back to the store with the printed coupon policy and ask for the manager. Explain to him what happened and ask for the coupons to be honored so you can get the cash back (or at least a store credit or gift card). On the receipt, it should have the cashier's name that rang up your items and that person may need to be trained or re-trained.

the dollar general in my area wouldnt except multiple coupons on one transaction. for example i had 2 $3/2 pantene coupons so i bought 4. i had to ring the 2 on seperate transactions to get it to work correctly. i try not to shop there because its always a hassle.

That's where my issues lay , However when i was in the process of contacting FD's support i accidently emailed DG (oops) but luckily FD has a phone number you can call and speak to someone DG you have to do by email. However , if you do have issues with either one of these places do contact corporate, cause even the managers go along with the cashiers in not believing you. When i contacted FD corporate every single one of my issues were resolved in 10 minutes and i have the dist. managers personal cell phone number now for any future problems if any.

I say if they don't honor your cpns when you go back, tell them you want a refund, and that you will not only be calling corporate but you will also be taking your business elsewhere(maybe even name a competitor)!! Good luck, I hope you don't have a problem when you go back there!!

Dollar General and Family Dollar both are so much trouble on the store level that I recommend calling corporate before you take everything back and ask for a refund or a correction. Then corporate will have the chance to straighten it out before you get there. Usually it is better to go to a manager but generally with DG it doesn't help. You could be the exception though. Keep us posted how it turns out.

it is the employees just being lazy. they are like that at all dollar stores. they don't want to bother totally everything up when the shift is over. the ones i go to are better than most. but i have had to stand there and make a small fuss before. try asking them to call the corporate office or dm to be sure they are right. i find that usually makes things go a little faster and smoother.

    Curtis,

I went back and luckily the store was fairly empty. I talked to the manager who said their coupon policy is clearly posted in the store...umm....he and I looked around and never could find it. I showed him the printed one I had and he said, "Well, I'm not quite sure what to do, I've only been here four days." While he was quite nice, he was no manager. *sigh* When I get time next week I'm going to call corporate...but this has turned me off DG pretty much for good. I don't have time to deal with their inconsistent policies.
