Default CVS--how can savings be more than spending?

Yesterday after picking things up and spending $1.04 oop (90 cents was sales tax) I was looking at the receipt and noticed Spring spending: 239.12
Year to date savings: 241.26

We just started going to CVS about a month ago and of course spent no where near this amount but how did we save more than we spent?????

Your spending means the total you paid Out of Pocket, and does not include EBs or coupons used. I am not that good yet at CVS, I spend a lot on diapers, and my spring spending is $77, my year to date savings is $1692.

Also, one is total for this quarter (so you know how many EB you will earn at the next printing) and the other is total for the year...I guess so you feel good with a giant total.

What I am not getting is that we haven't spent as much as it shows. Our first trip there was $32.04 and we had a second trip that we bought over the counter meds that was $23.78--when we first started. We have had a few other trips but they have been $1.77, $6.83, $5.32 and finally yesterdays was $1.04. I have saved all of our receipts and those don't add to the amount shown on what we spent???? So I guess I don't know what is going on???? I figured the amount was what you would have spent if you didn't use the coupons? I know we haven't spent that much since we pay cash and live on a budget

I think I found the answer. I looked at our receipt from yesterday and we didn't get the ECBs from the Colgate deal. It was already maxed out. Also the neutrogena deal used and half way to another . The greeting card deal was halfway used as well. I have only used the Aveeno deal. We are missing our large card so I am wondering when DH bought the Adidas deodorant he didn't get the card back and it was handed to someone else accidently? Have to get a new card.

Update--our card was given to a different customer by accident when hubby left in a hurry and forgot ours--it was returned after the other customer looked at her receipt and noticed her totals were not right for her spending/deals. Phone call to the store took care of it. We are trying to save not spend more! I guess I never really studied the receipts very closely since I usually save a lot and only grab the ECBs from the bottom. I am glad we have a small store in a smaller community!
