Default Went to donate

...on Tuesday about six bags of groceries to a church food pantry I found that does a food distribution every Wednesday. I asked how many people came by for help--turns out THREE HUNDRED families show up every week so they're helping way over 1,000 people with food and it's just whatever gets donated to the church! Apparently that's way up from their usual high of 250 families and it is growing.

When I got there the woman in charge was having a conversation with a man so I had to wait a few minutes. While she was helping me unload the groceries she was so excited when she saw the boxes of cereal and all toothpaste. Apparently the gentleman she had just been speaking to had asked her for cereal and she had to tell him she didn't have any. That's got to be such an emotionally draining job, I sure don't think I could do that. But...I'm really happy to be able to help thanks to all the great deals out there!

That's awesome couponmomma. I don't have all that much room to store a stockpile and my goal for this year is not only to lower my food bill but to really make an effort to help all those families out there struggling as much as I can with my excess free/nearly free stuff. I know the shelter you support will be thrilled with anything you can donate, they are in such dire straits!!

That was wonderful, ShortyQ.

I have a nearly full box for the local shelter, my 2nd in two months. I'm glad to be able to help others. I know that others will help me right now in my own time of need. It really is a circle.

I started giving to our church who donates to families in need as they are made aware of them. There was an announcement last week that our food pantry was pretty full so if anyone knew of anybody that could use the food.....I had to chuckle to myself. We are a very small church and my DH and I have donated 20 bags of food and personal items in the last month and a half. I think we may have caused that surplus! I call this my hobby. It is such a great one too because I have lowered my grocery bill by $50 - $100 per week plus I am able to donate to charity. What a wonderful life!

Default Thanks to all of you!!!

You've made my day! I just clicked on the forum to see what the news was and this was the first thread that caught my eye, how wonderful to read about what you all are doing to help others by donating food! Thanks so much!!!!!! And yes, Nerdycoupongirl, your generosity will come back to you I know.
