Just send a little note of thanks.Tell them to stay safe, let them know they are not forgotten...Tell them a little about yourself and your family. They love pictures drawn or colored by children( heard they decorate their places with them)Be sure and include an envelope and paper and stamps so they can return you a note( a lot of them don't have anything- their "little stores" they have to buy things run out quickly). They get really bored and lonely. Like someone said, a lot of them don't get any mail of anykind, they will read and reread your notes.

Hello all,
I'd first like to say i will keep all of your families in my prayers. I have a cousin who is somewhere in the middle east right now but he can not tell us where. I'm sure some of you know how that goes. Well the reason i write to you is because of a military family in need that we can all help. Her name is Valarie Philips, They are a family of 5 in Yokota Japan. They will be there until 2012. They still are paying on all of the things they had here in the states and now all the things they have there in Japan. They are having a hard time with money and now the christmas coming they are worried. What she is looking for is expired coupons. I'm not sure if you know but on oversea's military bases they can use expired coupons up to 6 months after they expire. They can not be from a spec. store ie: target, kroger etc. but they can use once printed from the internet. If we could all send some that would help not only her family but many others on the base. THey are finding it harder and harder to get coupons there on base. She has lots of others who need help on base. Please do not send any that are more than a couple of months past expiration date as it does take awhile for the package to be sent to japan. If you can please separte Q's into food and non food envelopes. If you have any questions i'd be happy to answer them. I will be in touch with her. I'd like to thank you in advance not only from me but from the Philips family and the many other families and the Yokota Military base. Valarie Philips PSC 78 Box 2684 APO, AP 96326- |

Hey I have a couple of questions about this that might be kinda dumb, I've never sent anything oversea's. Even thought it would be an envelope do I take it to the people at the post office, I'm assuming that I CANT just drop it in the "Out of Town" slot
. How much does it usually cost to send an envelope? Do the coupons HAVE to be expired? I mean if some of us just decided to donate our unused coupons would they still want/need/be able to use them? Thanks for the answer. ![]() Bethany |

These are great questions, And remember there are never dumb questions.
In the military when they have an APO address that means that the mail is shipped to different centers here in the states to sort the mail. This means it does not have the usual international shipping costs. For this family the AP means that their mail will be sorted in San Fan. The post office does make special APO flat rate boxes that you can prepay but those are kinda pricey and with those you could fit about 5 grand worth of q's in. I am sending her my first envelope this week, on weds. so i will post how much it cost me. I will post the size of the envelope and the weight etc. The q's do not have to be expired. They will take current ones if you would like to send them. The reason we ask for expired Q's is because most people do not want to part with current q's we usually like to hold on to these like gold Well thanks for the questions, I just got another email from valarie this morning and she is very excited. She said that even if she gets lots and lots she is already making arrangements with others to make sure they will all be put to good use. Thanks, mandie |

If everyone sent just a little bit it would make such a big diffence on this military base. She has other families who are wanting q's too. Thanks again, mandie |
