donating batteries

I just got an email from DD's high school saying they are in desparate need of triple AAA batteries for the extra calculators the school keeps for students who can't afford/forget theirs. They apparently spend more than $1,000 each school year on these AAA batteries, and they're asking parents to donate so they can try to funnel the money to more academic needs.

I never would have thought of this, but thought I'd post this here as a donation suggestion.

Have they considered rechargeable batteries? That would save them a lot of money.
