Postcards went out from the US Post Office earlier this week for this food drive.

I do remember that you said they were grateful for toiletries but it is definitely not mentioned in any of their official lists. What are you going to do?

I know in Toledo, we take toiletries. I'm sure the way the economy is right now, if you left some, they would gladly be accepted and distributed. I can't imagine any food bank telling somebody that was giving them these things for free that they didn't want them. So, I say, give whatever you can.

Thanks for posting this - I've started my box for next week. I am going to make it so good I'll have to help the carrier get it in the truck. Maybe I'll give my mail-lady a bottle of body wash as a thank you?

Thanks for the advice, Jan. I will do what you suggested and include toiletries - need to look for a much bigger box now.

I loaded up 1 large bag of toiletries (toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorants etc) and a big blue ikea bag with cereal, canned items, mac&cheese and other pasta products, grape jelly etc. my pantry is looking a little depleted but there's still plenty for us. I'd already been setting things aside for a while - i have to remember to keep a box going for items to donate. I didn't end up giving the mail-lady body wash because turns out she's on vacation and the guy covering for her didn't look like he'd like vanilla ... LOL.

I filled 3 bags and brought them to the Post Office as I just missed the Postal Carrier. There was nothing in the large rolling canvas bin that they set up with signs so I asked someone about it. They said that no one else had donated.
I feel good doing my part and certainly hope that it helps others.

I was sad no one on my street was participating, but as I mentioned in another thread, we got nothing in the mail. Not a week ago, not a few days ago. If I didn't belong to this forum, I wouldn't have been prepared. My Publix did have handouts for it, but not until this past week.
