Default May 8, Mail carriers' food drive

Just a reminder to all of you that have surplus goodies. The National Association of Letter Carriers, (that's your mail man) is collecting food next Saturday, May 8th. All items collected STAY in your local area for distribution. If you would like to donate, it's easy. Just leave a bag or items in or near your mail box and your carrier will pick it up on May 8th. If you forget, leave the bag the next week, I'm sure it will still get picked up. Try to watch expiration dates, as some food banks will discard out of date food items. Although we, (I'm a carrier) are mainly concerned with food items, we have picked up paper goods and the like also, so feel free to leave some of those too.

Many thanks in advance for another yearly food drive!

you know, i heard about this last year, but i'm somewhat skeptical that the groceries will get picked up. we have community mail boxes here; i'm afraid someone else will just take them.

If you are concerned about the community mail box, you can always drop off your donation at your post office. I also pick up anything anyone leaves early or late (I'm also a mail carrier). We are all very aware of how hard it is out there with the economy being tough and jobs hard to find. Toiletries are fine. We'll pick up anything! One year a carrier mistakenly picked up 5 quarts of oil and an oil filter left out by the mailbox in a bag. It turned out the owner just dropped them in his driveway, planning to do an oil change later in the day. We returned them with apologies. It was a great laugh!

Thanks for sharing this! I had a flyer in my mailbox yesterday and thought that it would be a great way to get rid of some soups that I had bought for my husband and he decided that he did not like them!
