Hi guys -
I live in the Atlanta area and I listen to The Bert Show on Q100 in the mornings (if you live here you should know). This morning they were having a conversation on how to pay it forward. A listener called in and said that he was a volunteer at Children's Hospital @ Scottish Rite. He said that there are so many parents that come there with there children and have to stay overnight and were not planning on it so they didn't bring any personal care items. He asked if people could to donate the hotel shampoos, conditioners, lotions, toothpastes, etc. to their Volunteer Services office so the parents of the sick children would have something. Think about all those full size items we are getting for pennies, or even free. If these parents are stuck at the hospital for weeks, this would be something I'm sure they would appreciate. I hope this gives some one an idea about something different they could do to help those in need. ![]() ![]()

My boss was complaining last week about how many of those things her husband brings home from his travels. She's thrown them out! I suggested then that she donate to a homeless shelter, but perhaps this idea will be more to her liking.
Thank you for passing the word.

Our local Ronald McDonald house asks for the sample size donations as well.
You might also want to check with your local CASA group - I don't know what it stands for, but it's a group of volunteers that advocates for children. My father-in-law used to be a child advocate and some of these kids came from homes where the parents were just totally neglectful and couldn't /wouldn't supply the kids with basics like soaps or toothpaste. So the volunteers would give them to the kids. Also, at one point we gave to a homeless shelter - they actually prefer smaller sizes. Homeless people often have to carry whatever they own with them. Larger sizes are much heavier than smaller sizes and can wear you out. |
