Default Newbie...First CVS Trip!

Well, I've been reading the CouponMom site for a couple of weeks now and learning more each time I'm here. I've already started savings lots of money at Wal-Mart with coupons and sales but, yesterday, I finally felt like I was ready to try CVS. I went in, and got a CVS card, went directly to the coupon splitter thing and swiped it...nothing. But, here's what I bought. I don't think it was too bad for my first trip. I have to build up some ECB's.

2 Pantene shampoo's - 2 for $7 with $3 Q - got $2 ecb's
2 Dawn detergeants - BOGO for $1.49 with $1 Q
2 Colgate Total - $2.99 ea with $1.50 Q and $2 ecb's back each

Total Before Savings: $15.34
Q's: $7
ECB's: $6
Total After Savings: $2.34 - 85% savings!

I was pretty happy for my first trip. Now, I have some ECB's to start using as well!

Question though, where do I find the January ECB books? I couldn't find them. Also, how often should the coupon splitter give me something? I've swiped the card twice now and not received anything either time. Thanks!

Regarding the card, you'll need to go to CVS.com and make sure your card is registered. If you just got your card, it may not have any q's loaded yet. Keep trying. The January ECB books should be out, just ask the cashier or you can look at the CVS home site and see them there.

Also, be sure to count your earned ECB's in savings only once.

Total Before Savings: $15.34
Q's: $7
ECB's: $6
Total After Savings: $2.34 - 85% savings!

You actually paid $8.34 OOP, correct? I would count my $6 ECB earned as savings on my next visit when I actually redeem them. You haven't noticed the savings yet, so I wouldn't count it yet. Just an FYI..... When you start out at CVS, there is always a little bit of an 'investment' of sorts.

Excellent job, keep it up!

Yes, I agree about calculating savings when I use the ECB's. I was just excited about getting them! haha

Would someone mind to post a link to where I can find the January ECB book online? I can't find it on their website. Also, where are you guys "previewing" the Jan 4th CVS ads? All I can access on their site is the current one.

One last thing, I just created an online CVS account and tried to link my card to it. It's telling me I have an invalid card number. Anyone ever have this problem?

Thanks.

The Jan. ECB book is usually up front with the sale paper......

The problem with your card is that you just got it and CVS hasn't gotten your card info into the system, sometimes it takes afew weeks.....

I'm sending you a pm about the previewing ???

Got it...thanks! It's great being able to plan ahead. Also, I stopped by CVS on lunch a little while ago and scanned my card...got two coupons that I won't use but at least it's printing them now. Also, they didn't have the January ECB books out yet so I asked a clerk and she got them out. I didn't really see anything off hand that I liked but at least I know about them now. And, who knows, I may get some coupons that make the deals a little more tempting.

Thanks again.

Good first trip! Once you get going with those ECB's it is fantastic.

Um... what is everyone talking about when you say you "scanned your card?"
