    Default CVS as Long's Drugs?

A search just yeilded the info that CVS is operated as Long's drugs in Honolulu. When I clicked to view the ad, it says there are no current offers in this location. My heart just sank. If there is no extrabucks promotions at the longs drugs, I may die.

It is Hawaii. You are going to pay more. I hope they have a commisary. Enjoy the weather and the views!

And yes they do have a giant commissary and a NEX (Navy Exchange, like a mall). I have heard that commissary prices are similar to mainland prices of regular stores. Since I'm not used to paying regular prices at regular stores it will be a little more but I will still do my best.

I also have been saving some of my last two months worth of food stamps that will end when I move so I can use that to stock my fridge when we first move in. Unlike at my dads where I paid for all the food, here my mom pays for most of it.

Where will you be stationed at (are you Air Force, Navy or Marine)? No matter what branch, you can go to any of the commissaries. When I visited my sister, we usually went to the Pearl Harbor commissary and exchange b/c it was the biggest (she was on the marine base and it had a small commissary and exchange). One of my favorite treats to buy there was macadamia nuts. The had something called melemacs - they were macadamia nuts covered in toffee, chocolate, and powdered sugar. Yum. I miss those.

I will admit it has been over 20 yrs since I shopped the Hawaii commissaries and many years since I have been in any commissary. But I lived outside Pearl Harbor, and did alot of my shopping at Hickum Airforce base. Over the years I found that the Airforce commissaries had more of the items we used at better prices. I suggest you shop the ones closest to you and compare, along with checking the deals at the nearest grocery stores, sometimes coupons and grocery store deals were better than commissary prices, just like you have found with CVS, but you probably already know that since you are shopping CVS.

    Enjoy your time over there!

Oh, I miss Long's Drugs. When I lived in Oregon, they still price-marked their items with the little price gun. And they wouldn't change all the prices, so if you found an item in the back that had a lower price, they would just charge you that marked price. I got so many good deals that way!
