I normally buy my papers at the grocery store. I also had problems with One cashier who happened to be the manager. I told him I bought the foundation and that the second coupon clearly states that if you purchase a foundation that you get a second facial product free. The product I chose for free was the mineral wear blush at 12.99 and that product is clearly shown on the coupon as one of the products that qualifies. he had to punch it in several ways, but finally got it to go thru. Some of the other stores had no problems pushing it thru. I stood there politely and sweetly and apologized to him for holding his line up!!! I have done this deal 5 times and have coupons for three more transactions. also, this coupon does not have a price limit written on it.

I buy mine retail rather than delivery. I've always noticed that the q's will be slightly different in the OC Register vs LA Times, with the P&G insert being the most notable difference. Not always though. And that's why I buy 2 of each paper, so that I get more than one of each q and hopefully get all of them.

I tried that at 2 CVS's yesterday and it wouldn't work either time. Both times the B1 Foundation G1 face product free wouldn't work. The q would beep every time. The cashier said that the register kept saying over the limit. We tried it with 3 different face products. So needless to say ,I never got the products.

If the coupon is over a certain value, the cashier needs a manager's approval. I had this happen with the Contour Monitor coupon for $14.99. Try asking the cashier to get a manager's or supervisor's approval.

I bought an $8.99 mascara and it worked for me. I was happy since I am running low on mascara. Looking forward to Rite Aid next week to use my other one.

Thank you, royal!
I just went to my 3rd CVS this week to find the Clean & Clear trial sizes (I had 8 $1/1 Qs - 0.08 overage). AND I lucked out and got a knowledgeable cashier to help with the makeup issue, too.
Purchased 4.99 cheapest CG foundation (other CVS's were 6.19), got $2 ECB back from that. Pointed out CG free item didn't have dollar limit, and as royal said, the item I was buying (mineral FOUNDATION for $12.99) was in the picture. She said it was a great deal and definite yes. Also used a $2 Publix CG Q (it is a manuf Q - breast cancer flyer) and my $4/20 CVS Q.
I purchased other things, but it's pretty obvious that the things I've mentioned here were FREE (+tax, of course)! I think I'll go back and do the foundation deal again to use up some more $4/20 that expire tomorrow.
Thanks again, royal!

Tried this yesterday without success. It beeped, overlimit, & the cashier pushed it through at $4.99. I explained the blush should be free not the foundation at which point he got a manager to asssist. She was unable to put it through and cited the "intent" of the Q being same or lesser value suggesting I call the manufacturer as well as showing the screen on her register that it wouldn't take. I had to leave for work so I left with out purchasing. I'll try again today. Why do cashiers point out their registers to us as if I'm supposed to be able to show them how to work their equipment? Wouldn't it be so much easier if we knew how to do it? Think of how much time and aggravation that would save. The look on the cashiers face would be priceless if they gave access to their register and we were able to complete the transaction quickly and accuratly.

I had two more experiences on this makeup deal. For BOTH of them, I first showed the cashier the coupon first thing when I entered the store, pointing out that it does NOT say "buy one, get 2nd of equal or lesser value free" to which both people said, "You're right. Yes, you can do what you want to do." Then and only then did I proceed to shopping.
First store: Assistant manager comes over to assist cashier. He said their (meaning all CVS's) stores were programmed to only take off the lesser item. I pointed out that wasn't what the coupon said, he said it's impossible. I said it's not, that everyone is doing it, and the coupon has no such wording on it. He got huffy, I made them cancel everything and give me all my coupons back. And most importantly, he lost my business for good since this was my 2nd visit to the store and I ONLY have dealt with rude people there!
Second store: Asst. manager is at the register. He agrees coupon is good. I get the items I'm buying, he decides to do the override by getting out his calculator (???). I figure out later that the register must not have allowed the $12.99 and so he divided it into two amounts (that sadly add up to $13.02!). And, he ended up not giving me my $1 off CG coupon. I was in the car when I looked at it all and decided it was not worth attempting to explain this time. I still spent $3.46+tax on stuff that costs $20.50 - 2 Diet Coke 2-liters and the $4.99 makeup and the $12.99 makeup. :-)
I'm new to the game, but I'm a quick learner. I have probably 50 CVS's within 30 minutes of me, so some will get my business and some won't. Simple as that.

For those of you in California...
My Los Angeles Times also had the Cover girl advertisement, but no coupons!! I am in need of make up and was excited about this, but now I'm just disappointed! Only got 1 copy of the paper that week and it was delivered.
