This method may take me a few months. guess I could start in the baths, since they are the worst Wonder if I could use a stiff bristle scrubber on a handle (bad hips) and a microfiber pad to clean up the dirty water. The hover scrubber is suppose to have a grout brush attachment. Anyone used this?
I don't have tile to use my grout attachment but my stepdaughter did in her old house and she thought it did a fantastic job. She had four dogs, three cats and four people living in the house at the time, so her tile floors were under constant assault. The Hoover Spin scrub also has a different cleaning solution for grout and tile floors. I'm in a similar situation..I have bad knees from severe arthritis and there is no way I could get on the floors to scrub by hand.

I knew it needed to be done, but I guess I really didn't realize how bad it really was till I was sitting on top of it and tried it... then I saw the difference. YOWSERS!!! My knees are shot, so I sat on one of those foam pads you use for gardening. Jacked up the boom box to make the job go faster. There were speckles in the tile that I thought were part of the pattern/design... WRONG!!! OMG, it was amazing... the difference between the cleaned tiles and grout and the ones I hadn't done. Like night and day. I started in my bathroom to test it out, and that test area convinced me to do the rest of the house. The kitchen for me was the absolute worst, because it is such a high traffic area. I thought that the actual grout color was gray till I started cleaning... soon discovered that it is actually soft white!!!! What a wake-upcall!

Yep, us Floridians have white ceramic tile and loads of it!

Thanks for all the input. It's been a few days since I have been able to look on here, but I will definitely be using the solution to clean the grout in the new house. It looks pretty nasty, too. I used some grout cleaner and ended up bleaching it out. It was horrible!

Default interesting

curious if while doing the initial cleaning if it would take some time off and get the grout cleaner if you used the small hand steam cleaner too. you will be on your hands and knees anyway.

As far as the sticky residue left on the floors using the swiffer, i am curious if it would work better using a vinegar / hot water solution to clean the floors instead. there are several alternatives to chemical cleaners that work just as good and are eco-friendly and cheap. just search the net.

I Have a swiffer. I do love it because if my kids make a mess or spill they can use it to clean up there problems. I haven't noticed any stickness on my floor. However i do still have to clean my floors really good once a month or so around the Edges of my kitchen floor. To make sure the crumbs etc are up (don't want any ants.)

I can say that the refills for the swiffer mop there are hardly any coupons for the darn thing.(the refill bottle) They used to give a $0.50/1 in the Home made simple booklet and this last go around they didn't.

I did recently buy me a new swiffer. The one I had was old. I had it for 9 years. I combined my coupons with a Kroger coupons and got it for $6.00
It had 6 $1/1 Refill coupons that came with it. and they didn't expire until 6/2010.

Hey Carol -

Did you try the baking soda and white vinegar on your ceramic tile floors and grout yet?

LMK how it worked for you.

Sorry, the jury is still out on that

To tell you the truth I was too lazy to do it until a couple days ago. I did 3 tiles that are absolutely bugging me....well they were ....but they still don't seem to be that sparkle...I'm going to go over them again tomorrow. I ran out of peroxide (my dd takes it and it goes into this dark hole....LOL) so I'll pick some up later tonight. I did find that the kitchen mat in front of the refrig works great on the knees.

I did ALL of ours on my hands and knees (and yes, it took me a while). I used baking soda and hydrogen peroxide (which I found out from a guy who has a business cleaning ceramic tile is one of the best and safest things you can use). I did it in small sections, spraying it onto those areas and scrubbing the tile AND the grout, then wiping it up with a clean rag. Depending on how bad yours is (ours was pretty bad!) you may have to go over each section a couple of times. After you do a section, just wipe it down with clean, clear hot water and a clean sponge so it does't get gritty and such. When you're done, seal it IMMEDIATELY. I cannot emphasize that enough. Unless you get somebody in to do it professionally (at some RIDICULOUS price) that's the best way to get it clean. This guy also said do NOT use bleach on it... it's one of the worst things you can use on it.

AFTER you get it clean, the Shark steam mop will keep it looking good. We use the Shark steam mop on it, and it does a pretty good job. Just make sure you buy a spare set of pads, and toss 'em in the wash.

Just my 2¢...
A late response....but I was busy scrubbing tile LOL. I bought the Shark steam pocket mop. LOOOOOVE IT! I use my 25% off coupon from the entertainment book at BBB and got the set up with all the gadgets for 95 bucks, worth every cent. My floors look nice, everything is sanitized. I can even steam the carpets to freshen them with the carpet glider attachment. I think it will kill any fleas that may try to hide in the carpet. Thanks everyone for the consumer report.
