    Thumbs down Wal-mart Alert

Today I was told by a cashier there they no longer accept internet coupons. I am having a consumer journalist look into it and will let you know how it goes. Is anyone else here having the same experience? That's why I joined here looking for snail mail coupons now. The sunday paper doesn't give alot. I can usually save 5-10 dollars a week on coupons but now I will be lucky to save $5 without my printable coupons.

This has been posted before, and it seems as if some WM employees/managers are unaware of their own coupon policy they have stated on their website. The cashier was sadly mistaken. Here is the link to their stated policy. Unless you have violated one of their "rules" listed there they should accept them. Next time you go in to shop, pick a new cashier and I am betting you won't have an issue with it. If you do, however, I would suggest asking to speak with the store manager and be armed with your printed information, and if that does not work threaten to talk to their district manager about the situation. At some point with so many people who use IPs they will all need to be on the same page if they are going to keep up with the local grocery stores that have sales that beat them out every day (and who don't blink at accepting IPs)!

It has been suggested on this forum that you print this policy out and carry it with you when shopping, that way if you run into any trouble you can show them what their own policy is. How strange is that!

Thanks everyone. I am taking the advise of one and bringing the policy with us when we shop there. And if the problm presisys we are going to report toa district manager, And then write to the consumer journalist asking for Tv exposure about the the situation and maybe court time too, if need be.

I was told by a cashier, for the few time, last week, that they were not accepting Internet Coupons, but she quickly called a CSM (manager) over. The CSM looked at every coupon very carefully and of the four, pulled out one and said they could not accept it. (The coupon came from the manufacturer's own site!)

She said they (WM employees/managers) are being told not to accept ANY coupons that have Fawcett Drive on them. Also, she said they see a lot of ridiculous offers -- like $5 and $2 off thngs that are no where near those prices or are too out of the ordinary to be believed. (And they can not accept those.) She said there are Internet Coupons that offer (say) $2 off any item -- that is, the same coupon is being printed with different product pictures --- so, look at Internet Coupons that have the same dollar/cents amounts off -- check the UPC codes -- if they have the same UPC codes, but are for different products (pictures), they are frauds. [Different products will have different UPC codes, even if the amounts offered-off are the same.]

I have been wanting to write to Wal-Mart and get some direct info from the corporate offices....

I didn't buy the product that WM did not accept the coupon on.

.....At the next store I was at, I asked a manager to help me figure out how to recognize fraudulant coupons. He looked up info from their training manual, but it wasn't of much value. It listed some known fraudulant coupons, but didn't offer any identifying factors to help us, the consumers, determine they were frauds. The manager didn't seem overly concerned about fraudulant coupons. He said that Wal-Mart has probably had enough bad coupons with "Fawcett Drive" on them that they are not accepting any, no matter where they come from (even manufacturers' websites).

There's other good info on this site -- like carrying SmartSource's letter with you [it gives numbers that stores can call to verify coupon offers], carrying stores' corporate policies with you....

It's a shame we have to go shopping with a briefcase of documents to get savings!! Wow, so bad a few (criminals) can spoil it for the rest of us!!

...someone did not listen clearly during a meeting because a significant portion of the coupons in the Sunday paper have the Fawcett drive addy.

Smart thinking, I do the same when it happens regardless of the store.

I saw a url someplace where the coupon upc number can be input to verify the legitimacy. Anyone have the link?

retailers are supposed to accept Q's based on the verbiage of the Q, not the product pictured. Mfrs will often put a pic of a higer priced item, but the verbiage will state good on any

"Fawcett Drive" -- Sunday Paper (and other non-printable) coupons with Fawcett Drive are OK. Sorry I was unclear. It's just the Iinternet-printed coupons they are concerned about. The CSM said somehow criminals are diverting funds to themselves & still using Fawcett Drive on them... I don't know how people get monies for coupons -- through criminal means -- so I can just listen, try to leanr * figure it out.

As for the verbage on the coupons and the UPCs and pictures -- I think the CSM was just saying it was another sign to look for. A coupon for Hersey's Candy does not have the same UPC that a coupon for Kellogg's Cereal does, it what I am saying (as she was). BUT fraudulant coupons are being printed/distributed with the same UPCs, even though the pictures and verbage would suggest they are for different products.

...Again, I'm just saying they are signs to look for -- they/we have to put all the facts together.

I pulled the ones without the squiggles from my organizer. Just not confident in these.

So far I only had one coupon rejected at rite aid but I was able to use it at CVS without issue. It was for Cortaid

Still somewhat leery of the ones I print off vendor websites, nearly all have the fawcett drive addy. i have a cool BOGO one for Wholly Guacamole that i'm afraid of. I've used several dryell ones.
