I grew up with a very frugal single mom, she always bought a whole chicken and deboned it herself. She made me learn how to do that when I was very young. Thank you mom.

I'll do the same with Ham and many times a New York Strip loin. Lots of good cuts of meat for the same as you can get burger sometimes.
Thanks for reminding me about having it sliced, I keep forgetting they will do this .

We buy the whole chickens often. I don't know why it never occurred to me to use lemon. Sounds good, think I'll try it! We used to have a George Foreman Contact Roaster (don't make them any more) that I miss terribly. It was lost in the last move. It was WONDERFUL for a whole chicken.

use the whole lemon (if possible) roll it on the counter to get the juices flowing and then poke it all over with a toothpick or knife so the juice can flow out whilst cooking.......yum.........

I always check the "manager special" section of the meat dept. It's the stuff with a sell-by date of 1-day away or less, so you just have to make sure to eat or freeze within a day.

Have recently scored a fresh 3-lb cod filet for $6 (and it was YUMMY). Also got a $5.19 pkg of Johnsonville italian sausage for 59-cents ... it was on mgr special for $2.59 and I had a $1 Q that was doubled.

I ALWAYS do this. I've purchased center cut pork loin chops for $1.69/package - not poundage. There were many packages too. But alas, no deep freezer, so I couldn't 'stock up'. I find that if I go to the grocer Monday evening or Tuesday morning - I'll find the best deals on the 'manager specials'.

I do a lot of 'Once a month cooking' - or OAMC. I plan my cooking around the meat sales. Now since I'm learning couponing, I'll build my cooking around that too. I have several cook books on OAMC like, 'Don't Panic: Dinner is in the Freezer' and 'Fix, Freeze, Feast' and Holly Cleggs 'Trim and Terrific Freezer Meals'.

Here is a sample of what I made with 'stockpiling' boneless, skinless breast on sale for $1.79lb.
Chicken Cherries Jubilee
Feta, Ham and Basil stuffed Chicken Breasts
Chicken Pot Pie

I just pull out what we want for dinner the night before, heat or cook, then eat! For example the stuffed chick breasts are individually frozen and I pull out as many as we need, they defrost in the fridge and ready for baking when I get home from work. Ta Da. Try googling OAMC or go to recipezaar.com for OAMC recipes. Once you try it, you'll save even more money and time.
