Default Get Started With Coupons from the Sunday Newspaper

There are lots of great sources to find grocery coupons. Start with your Sunday newspaper, since over 75% of grocery coupons come from the Sunday paper.

Larger city papers have more coupons than smaller city or suburban papers. It may make sense to subscribe to the largest newspaper in your area for the additional coupon savings. You can get discounted subscriptions here.

If there is a week with a lot of coupons, you should get extra copies of the paper. I recommend that families get at least 3 sets of coupons to be able to stock up on favorite items when they hit their lowest price. You can preview your Sunday paper's coupons in the Grocery Coupon Database section at CouponMom.com as early as 3 PM on Saturday (EST).

You can also ask friends and neighbors who don't use their coupon circulars if you can have them, or trade coupons with other coupon users via this forum.

I live in Concord, NH and I have found that the coupons in our local papers are not the same as what are in the Boston papers (which we can get here as well). So usually I check Stephanie's coupon database to see what is in the Boston paper and decide whether to get it on Sunday. That way I am expanding the coupons I get.

I have to be careful though because there were a couple of Sundays when I bought the Boston paper and there were no coupons at all in them (and they were not Holidays either). So now I check before I buy the Boston paper.

Sad that you have to check before you buy -wonder why that would be that some have it and some don't - maybe the person stuffin the coupons are keeping them for themselves .. bummer!

I purchase both our local paper and the one for a nearby big city since sometimes I get a few different coupons (plus they only charge $1.50 instead of $1.75 for their paper!) I too have to make sure the coupons are in the paper because two times I've checked they were not in there... one I could tell someone had rifled through and taken them.

Does the Boston Herald have coupon inserts? I have never checked and they're not as available around here as the Globe is.

Here in Columbus, OH, I have found that some Sundays there are no (good) coupon inserts in the store paper. I was told that they put them in the home delivery but not always in the store--he guessed to increase home circulation. Not sure how true that is.

it really works to see on the website, and then buy accordingly! i actually have a great deal... i buy one copy each of the 2 papaers we get here... they also carry 2 urban papaers... but they r more expensive... then at the end of the day i go into the store and the clerk will give them to me for free because he isnt going to sell leftover sunday papers! so i end up getting on a good day 4 extra copies of each! on a bad day i normally get an extra copy of at least 3!

You are so lucky, Coupon dad!

I tried that, and the clerk said no because they could return the unsold papers for credit.

Too bad...

lindar11201,
You may want to re-ask if you could just have the inserts not the whole paper. It's worked for me & the store still gets credit for the unsold papers
