I had the same problem at a new Walgreen's. "That register rewards are manufacturers coupons."

As I had a half hour or so to kill until I picked up the Grandkids from school, I asked to see the manager, and he responded after 10 minutes. I stood by the cashier at a reasonable distance and kept noting the time out loud. When the manager came, the cashier whispered something to the manager. He took me over to the next register and asked if I was recording our conversation. No, just my responses but may repeat your answers. He was taken aback and proceeded to ask questions about who, when, and what. I repeated what he said and I said,"I am not recording our conversation, just what I say." Note, my jacket has a pull string with a flat button which looks like a microphone. "Would you like to cash me out as I've been delayed here for to long and have a schedule to comply with." He checked me out using the manufacturers coupons and the register printed all the RR's with no problem. I thanked him and walked out of the store. I had no voice recorder, just my pleasant demeanor. When I reached my car I opened the trunk and placed the receipt in the bag and put a rubber band around the top which I do to keep items from flying around the trunk. Then you can reach in and pick up the bags by the handles easily. I felt someone watching me, so I took out my cell and acted like I was talking into it. I turned and looked back to the store and guess who is moving carts in the vestibule, the manager. I wanted to wave but just nodded and went on my merry way.
