I don't even boil corn anymore. I got a super nifty
microwave "rice steamer" from walmart a few years back and I wouldn't be with out it. I steam all kinds of veggies and rice in it and it takes just a few minutes and never heats up the kitchen just about a 1/4 cup or less of water and tada... yummy-ness.

you can steam fish, shrimp, shell fish and even chicken breasts too if you desire.
Corn in the steamer is amazing. You do have to break the ears in half to get them in the steamer but oh it is so worth it.
