Diatomaceous earth works too.
Diatomaceous Earth Food Grade
Earth as a natural insecticide for the non-chemical control of aphids, whiteflies, beetles, loppers, mites, leafhoppers, and other insects, used around the house as an organic pesticide for the control of ants, cockroaches, silverfish, bedbugs, fleas, box elder bugs, scorpions, crickets, ticks, and many other unwelcome pests
Won't hurt you or your animals, can be used around food and garden plants.
First thing you want to do is make sure you are not attracting them. Make sure your garbage can is well away from the house. Make sure your empty coke cans are rinsed. Regularly clean grease traps and stove hood filters. Don't allow dishes to sit in the sink. Clean crums from the toaster, cereal spills in the cupboard...anything that you think might be attracting the little buggers.... etc. etc. etc.
After the Terro and Diatom Earth has done their job do a "spring" cleaning so you remove their scent trails. Then inspect the yard for ant hills and put the earth around them. If your neighbors have the same problem... put the earth around the perimeter of your property.. to make a "no go" zone.
Good Luck.
